The Revolutionary Students Front (RSF), a socialist student organisation in Pakistan, has strongly condemned the state crackdown on the Joint Awami Action Committee’s (JAAC) peaceful long march towards Muzaffarabad, calling it a grave attack on democratic rights.
According to the organisation’s statement, security forces opened fire and used tear gas against protesters in Rawalakot, killing at least five (Update twenty-two) people and injuring hundreds. RSF warned that as security operations continue, the death toll could rise further.
The student organisation stated that workers, students, farmers, and youth in Jammu Kashmir are facing an escalating campaign of state repression, including killings, arbitrary arrests, and attacks on the right to peaceful assembly and political protest.
RSF appealed to student organisations, trade unions, socialist organisations, democratic movements, and human rights organisations in Pakistan, across the region, and internationally to express solidarity with the people of Jammu Kashmir and to condemn the ongoing repression.
The organisation called for an immediate end to the use of force against peaceful protesters, the release of all political detainees, unrestricted access to food and medical care, and an independent investigation into the reported violence.
In its statement, RSF argued that the struggle of the people of Jammu Kashmir forms part of the wider international struggle against oppression, exploitation, state repression, and imperialist ambitions. It stressed that international solidarity remains essential in defending democratic rights and supporting mass movements confronting state violence.
